DJ CLASS DESCRIPTIONS


DJING 101+ (adults) - $299

This 4 week course meets on Monday & Wednesday evenings from 6:30PM-8:30PM at Connect Gallery in Hyde Park (1520 E. Harper Ct.). This course covers the following topics through classroom lectures and hands-on labs facilitated by WeJam Certified Coaches:  

Course Overview

  • DJ History

  • DJ & Sound Engineering Terminologies & Concepts

  • DJ Hardware Overview & Lab (1200 Turntables, CD Players, DJ controllers)

  • DJ Software Overview & Lab (Deep Dive w/ Serato DJ)

  • 4/8 Count & Cue Points

  • Equipment Setup, Maintenance & Troubleshooting

  • Beat Matching/Blending, BPM, Scratching, Looping & EFX

  • The Business of DJing - Learn valuable techniques on how to land more DJ gigs & get paid top dollar for your services...Learn strategies for mastering wedding receptions and corporate events...Receive access to a "Mobile DJ Toolkit" to help build, manage and grow a profitable, professional DJ business...you will be added to the WeJAM DJ database for potential gigs.

  • DJ Recital

Participants do not have to own DJ equipment to attend this course as a DJ controller and laptop will be provided.

Upon completion of this course, participants will have a sound understanding of audio/DJ terminologies, basic beat matching, cuing, scratching, equipment set up & troubleshooting.  

Participants will also receive a WeJam Certificate of Completion, a WeJam DJ Academy membership card good for discounts at any of our local sponsors, a flash drive of 3GB of music to start a digital database and will be added to the WeJam DJ database which will allow them to bid on paying gigs that request WeJam DJ services.  


intro 2 Djing - 8yrs-17yrs - $150

This 4 week course is tailored for beginners and covers the following topics through classroom lectures and hands-on labs facilitated by WeJam Certified Coaches:Building and organizing your musical library

  • Controller Overview

  • DJ Software Overview & Lab w/ Serato DJ Intro

  • 4/8 Count, Cue Points, BPM/Tempo

  • Equipment Setup, Maintenance & Troubleshooting

  • Beat Matching/Blending, BPM, Scratching, Looping & EFX

  • DJ Recital

We have two locations for this class: Melody Mart Inc (18062 Dixie Hwy, Homewood, IL) & Connect Gallery (1520 E. Harper Ct. Hyde Park). The cost of this course is $150, with a $50 non-refundable deposit due upon registration.  The remaining balance will be due prior to the start of the 3rd session.  Class sizes are limited to only 8 students to foster a collaborative, nurturing learning environment.

Participants do not have to own DJ equipment to attend this course, but are welcome to bring their own.  DJ controllers will be provided and participants should bring their own laptop.  An email confirmation will be sent upon registration with payment options and class details; flex payment options will be available upon request. 



 
 

Level up: advanced djing - $60

This 2hr class is designed for experienced DJs w/ 3-5yrs experience and covers the following topics:

  1. Fine tuning beat-matching & transition timing

  2. Optimizing Serato DJ Pro for better sets

  3. Music Library Management & “smart” crates

  4. Integrating Spotify, SoundCloud & Tidal playlists

  5. Navigating and understanding every knob/button/performance pad on a controller

  6. Troubleshooting common problems

  7. Helpful tips on landing more high paying gigs and exceeding expectations during gigs

Prerequisites:

  • Participants must have 3-5yrs experience DJing

  • Participants must have their own controller/deck and laptop

  • Participants should have a sound understand of basic audio terminologies and concepts 


intro to djing for adults (truman college) - $200

This 5 week course meets on Tuesdays, starting Oct. 8th-Nov. 5th from 6PM-8PM. This course is tailored specifically for adult beginners. Upon completion of this course participants will gain a sound understanding of the following concepts:

  • DJ History

  • DJ & Sound Engineering Terminologies & Concepts

  • DJ Hardware Overview & Lab (1200 Turntables, CD Players, DJ controllers)

  • DJ Software Overview (Serato DJ Lite)

  • 4/8 Count & Cue Points

  • Equipment Setup, Maintenance & Troubleshooting

  • Beat Matching/Blending, BPM, Scratching, Looping & EFX

DJ Controllers and computers will be provided for this class. However you may bring your own if you prefer. Truman College is located at 1145 West Wilson, Chicago, IL 60640.
